NEW HAVEN, CT (October 14) – The University of Connecticut men’s golf team finished second at the MacDonald Cup on Sunday at the Yale University Golf Course.  The Huskies combined to shoot 601 for their best finish in any tournament this season, only six shots behind winner Johnson & Wales University of Florida and ahead of the other 14 schools in the field. 

UConn was paced in the two-day tournament by seniors Sean Vigue (Lebanon, CT) and Kevin Coghlan (North Ridge, CA), who both tied for second place with scores of 146 (+6).  Vigue shot a 75 (+5) in the opening round on Saturday but bounced back to card the best UConn round of the tournament with a 71 (+1) on Sunday.  Coghlan fired a 72 (+2) on Saturday and added a 74 (+4) in the final round.  Johnson & Wales' Diego Besga was the tournament medalist with a 144.

Senior Kevin O’Connor (East Lyme, CT) tied for 27th place--his best finish of the fall--with a score of 155 (+15).   Freshmen Mike Murphy (Woburn, MA) and Daniel Keefe (Cumberland, RI) rounded out UConn's scoring.  Murphy finished tied for 36th with a 156 while Keefe carded a 160 to finish tied for 49th.

The Huskies will next take to the links in Brewster, MA for the NEIGA Tournament. A season ago at this tournament, UConn finished third in a 46-team field with a two-round total of 619.
