PROVIDENCE, RI (Jan. 27) - Freshman Barbara Turner (Cleveland, OH) of the Connecticut women’s basketball team was selected BIG EAST Rookie of the Week named by the league officials on Monday, afternoon. Turner received the honor for the second time this season.

Turner led the Huskies to two BIG EAST wins last week.  She averaged 19.0 points and 5.0 rebounds in the victories.  In the victory over Notre Dame, Turner scored a career-high 25 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the field.  Turner then added 13 points and eight rebounds in the win against Pittsburgh.  In the two games, she shot 66.7 percent from the field (14-21), including 80 percent from behind the arc (4-5).

Connecticut returns home to Gampel Pavilion for action on Wednesday, January 29 against BIG EAST Rival Villanova.  Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. and can be seen locally on CPTV.
