JAMAICA, NY (February 4,2003)-- Freshman Barbara Turner (Cleveland, OH) scored15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, while junior Jessica Moore (Palmer, AK) added 16 points and six rebounds to lead the No. 1 ranked University of Connecticut to an 87-46 win over St. John's on Tuesday before a crowd of 4,195 at Alumni Hall.

The win was the 60th in a row for the Huskies dating back to last year, which continues their national collegiate Division I record and places them tied for second in NCAA men's and women's history. The San Francisco men's team also won 60 between 1954-57.

St. John's scored the first basket at the 18:30 mark, which would be their only lead of the night. A three point play by Moore, at the 16:59 mark, then sparked the Huskies on a 10-0  run. With just under six minutes to the play, the Huskies played strong defensively, holding the Red Storm scoreless for almost four minutes. UConn led 47-23 at the half.

The Huskies continued to dominate on defense throughout the second half, allowing the Red Storm to score only nine points in the first 12 minutes of play. The Huskies lead grew to 41 at the 8:43 mark, as Ashley Valley sank two free throws. The lead allowed coach Geno Auriemma to freely substitute for the rest of the half.

Three other Huskies scored in double figures as Willnett Crockett (Harbor City, CA) added 14, while Diana Taurasi (Chino, CA) and Ann Strother (Castle Rock, CO) both contributed 12.  UConn out shot St. John's 51 percent to 33 percent from the field, and out rebounded them 47 to 21.

Only two of St. John's players scored in double-digits, as senior Danielle Rainey scored 14 points, while junior Shemika Stevens added 13.

The Huskies return to play on Saturday February, 8 as they travel to take on the Boston College Eagles at the Silvio O. Conte Forum. Tip off time is set for noon and will be televised on NESN (New England Sports Network).
