Turner Earns Co-BIG EAST Rookie of the Week Honors

PROVIDENCE, RI (Feb. 10) - Freshman Barbara Turner (Cleveland, OH) of the Connecticut women’s basketball team received was named Co-BIG EAST Rookie of the week honors announced by the league officials on Monday, morning. Turner shares the honor with Cappie Pondexter of Rutgers.

Turner who receives the honor for the third time averaged 16.5 points and 10 rebound in two BIG EAST victories.  Against St. John's, she had her first double-double of the season with 15 points and a career-high 11 rebounds, which included a career-high nine on the offensive end.  Turner dropped in 18 points and nine boards in the win Saturday at No. 20 Boston College.  For the week Turner shot 52 percent (11-21) from the field and 79 percent (11-14) from the charity stripe.

UConn returns to action on Wed., Feb. 12 against Syracuse at the Hartford Civic Center.  Game time is set for 7 pm and can be seen locally on CPTV.
