Taurasi Wins the 2002-03 Honda Award for Basketball

STORRS, CT (April 14) - Junior Diana Taurasi of the University of Connecticut women's basketball team has been named the recipient of the 2002-03 Honda Award for basketball announced Monday, by the Honda Awards Program.  Taurasi will now be one of 12 finalist for the Honda-Broderick Cup, which honors the top collegiate woman athlete of the year.  Taurasi is the second consecutive UConn player to win the award for basketball, with Sue Bird winning the 2001-02 award.

Natalie Coughlin, University of California, Berkley, Swimming
Shalane Flanagan, University of North Carolina, Cross Country
Christine Sinclair, University of Portland, Soccer
Tiffany Snow, Old Dominion University, Field Hockey
Diana Taurasi, University of Connecticut, Basketball
Logan Tom, Stanford University, Volleyball

The Honda Awards Program has completed its 27th year and recognizes the top women collegiate athletes in each of 12 sports.  In addition, the program honors the top women collegiate athletes representing Division II and III schools and the recipient of the Honda Inspiration Award.  The awards program is sponsored by the American Honda Motor Co., Inc.
