Huskies Drop 1-0 Decision to St. John's in Series Finale

QUEENS, N.Y. (April 13, 2008) — The Red Storm's Jared Yecker pitched six shutout innings en route to a St. John's 1-0 victory against the University of Connecticut baseball team on Sunday afternoon at Jack Kaiser Stadium.

After four and a half scoreless innings, St. John's put the game's only run on the board as Chris Anninos recorded a lead-off double to begin the inning then later scored as the Huskies turned a double-play to record the first two outs of the inning.

The Huskies were held without a run on just five hits. With the loss, UConn drops to 18-17 overall and 6-9 in BIG EAST play. St. John's improves to an overall record of 25-8 on the year.

Yecker earned the win in six innings pitched as he allowed four hits while striking out six batters. Teammate Colin Lynch recorded his 10th save of the season for the Red Storm in the win.

UConn was led by senior co-captain Pat Mahoney (Des Moines, Iowa) with a 2-for-4 performance, as the Huskies were able to take just one game from the Red Storm in this weekend's series.

Mike Hashem (North Andover, Mass.) took the loss on the mound for the Huskies as finished the game with four innings pitched, allowing just one run and one hit. The Huskies were able to put up five hits in today's match-up as they held the Red Storm to just two hits, one coming off Hashem in the fifth.

UConn will return to Storrs, Conn. to face Northeastern on Monday afternoon at J.O. Christian Field. The non-conference match-up is set for a 3:00 p.m. start time.
