UConn Alumni Take Part in "The Game at Radio City Music Hall"
STORRS, Conn. (August
6, 2004) — The United States Olympic Team raced out to a 19-point
halftime advantage and never looked back as it cruised to a 74-58 win
over the WNBA All-Stars in “The Game at Radio City Music Hall” on
Thursday night in New York.
Former University of Connecticut standouts Sue Bird, Swin Cash and
Diana Taurasi saw time for the U.S. squad, all in a reserve role.
Fellow UConn alum and current member of the Connecticut Sun Nykesha
Sales was the program’s lone representative on the WNBA side.

Bird played the most of any of the Huskies with 20 minutes. She
finished the game with two points and three assists. Cash enjoyed
well-rounded effort as she posted nine points, six rebounds, two
assists and two steals. Taurasi was held scoreless over her 16 minutes
of action, but added four rebounds, two assists and a steal in the
victory.
The U.S. National Team dominated the game down low as it out-scored
the WNBA All-Stars 42-22 in the paint and won the rebounding battle
62-30.
Sales tallied seven points, three rebounds and a game-high four steals
in the loss for the WNBA All-Stars.
The U.S. Olympic Team will head to Europe for its final tune-up before
Athens where it will compete in a tournament in Salamanca, Spain.
Following the tournament, the United States will remain in Spain and
practice on Aug. 10-13.
The U.S. begin its 2004 Olympic competition against New Zealand at
7:30 a.m. (ET) on Aug. 14.
