ST. THOMAS, U.S.V.I. (November 22, 2007)Freshman Maya Moore (Lawrenceville, Ga.) scored 19 and junior Kalana Greene (St. Stephens, S.C.) added 15 as the No. 2/2 University of Connecticut women's basketball team put together a convincing 66-54 win over No. 4/4 Stanford on Thursday night at the Paradise Jam Tournament in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The Huskies never trailed and led by as many as 26 points with 9:26 remaining in the second half as it upped their record to 3-0 on the season.  Stanford slips to 3-1 following the loss.

The win over No. 4/4 Stanford marked Connecticut's first win away from home against an opponent ranked in the top 5 since it defeated Tennessee 70-61 in the 2004 NCAA National Championship Game.  The Huskies had dropped their last three games overall against opponents ranked among the top 5 nationally.

UConn (3-0) wasted no time setting the tone as it raced out to a 9-0 lead in the opening 3:04, as four different Huskies registered baskets.

Connecticut increased the margin to 14 points at 16-2 before Stanford trimmed the lead to 20-14 at 8:18 following a pair of free throws by Candice Wiggins.  That was as close as the Cardinal would get the remainder of the night as UConn out-scored Stanford 11-8 over the final eight minutes of the half to go into intermission leading 31-22.

Moore led the Huskies in the first half with seven points and a total of seven UConn players recorded points in the opening 20 minutes.

UConn opened the second half by out-scoring Stanford 25-10 over the initial 9:06 to put the game out-of-reach at 58-34.  Greene led the early second-half outburst with 13 points during the stretch.

Tina Charles (Jamaica, N.Y.) rounded out UConn's double-figure scorers with 13 points and added 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season and the 12th of her career.  Moore added 12 rebounds to go along with her 19 points to notch her second double-double in three collegiate games.

The Huskies return to action at the Paradise Jam on Friday, Nov. 24 when they meet Old Dominion beginning at 8:30 p.m. (ET) in a game that will be televised by Connecticut Public Television (CPTV).
