Abbey VanDeusen

Abbey VanDeusen enters her second year as an assistant coach with the UConn women’s lacrosse team. She is involved in all aspects of the program, with an emphasis on working with attackers and recruiting for the new era of UConn Lacrosse.

Under her guidance, the UConn attack averaged 12.9 goals per game in the 2007 season and outscored opponents 207-182 on the year. Shannon Burke led the charge with 42 goals and 58 assists for a record-breaking 100 points.

In addition to her role with UConn, VanDeusen coaches at a number of summer lacrosse camps across the country.

Her coaching tenure began after her own four-year standout career with the Huskies.

She earned a starting role as a sophomore, beginning 31 of 32 games over a two-year span before redshirting the 2005 season due to injury. She chose to come back for a fifth year to start her master’s degree, and in her final season with the Huskies in 2006, VanDeusen finished second on the team in scoring with 22 goals and seven assists.

The breakout season propelled the redshirt-senior attacker into ninth-place in the Husky record books in both goals and ground balls, with 60 tallies and 101 pickups. Over the course of her career, VanDeusen also tallied 52 draw controls, 18 assists and 35 caused turnovers.

Prior to coming to Storrs as a freshman, VanDeusen was a four-year varsity lacrosse player at Fayetteville-Manlius in New York. As a senior captain, she earned Honorable Mention All-American lacrosse honors, in addition to being an All-CNY selection and a First Team All-League member both junior and senior years.

A two-sport athlete, she also lettered two-years in soccer and was a member of the National Honor Society, earning scholar-athlete accolades her sophomore through senior seasons.

A native of Fayetteville, N.Y., VanDeusen graduated from UConn in 2005 with a degree in human development and family studies. before going on to receive her master’s degree in sport management and sociology from the University in 2007.
