Assistant Coach Glenn Stewart
Glenn
Stewart, a Toronto, Ontario native, enters his fourth season as an assistant
coach with the University of Connecticut. The 2007-08 season will also mark his
second as recruiting coordinator. During the 2004-06 seasons, Stewart served as
a graduate assistant coach while pursuing his Master of Arts degree in Sport
Management. With the Huskies, he has helped to enroll three successful
recruiting classes that would eventually aid in the program’s back-to-back
appearances in the Atlantic Hockey post-season semifinal game.
Prior to coaching at the collegiate level, Stewart played professional hockey
for nine years in the East Coast and United Hockey Leagues along with several
stints in both the American and International Hockey Leagues.
On the professional stage, Stewart played in 618 games tallying 402 goals, 452
assists for 854 points, including three seasons where he registered over 100
points. Stewart remains in the top ten in many offensive categories in all-time
scoring in the UHL.
As the assistant captain of the Quad City Mallards (1997-98), he led his team to
back-to-back Colonial Cup Championships.
Additionally, he undertook responsibilities as a Player Assistant Coach with the
Mallards (1997-99) and with the New Haven Knights (2001-02) where his duties
included supporting the head coach by organizing team drills and practice plans,
assisting with player recruitment and providing leadership and guidance for his
fellow players.
His time as a Player Assistant Coach helped to prepare Stewart for his first
assistant coaching position under the guidance of head coach Gary Wright at
American International College in 2003-04. While at AIC, Stewart was responsible
for recruiting as well as directing the power play and serving as the goalie
coach.
Stewart was a four-year letter winner at the University of New Hampshire
(1990-94) where he played in a total of 144 games and was named the assistant
captain in his senior season. In 1994, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree
in Family and Consumer Studies.
Stewart is also involved in numerous USA Hockey youth programs in the greater
New England area.
Dating back to 2004, he has been a part of the Yankee Conference Hockey
Festival. Festival participants receive on- and off-ice training under the
direction of leading USA Hockey coaches.
Stewart and head coach Bruce Marshall also join forces to organize and put on a
youth camp called the Connecticut Hockey Experience. The camp is held annually
in July on the University’s campus at the Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum.
Stewart and his wife Bridget have celebrated a decade of marriage and currently
reside in Natick, Mass.
