STORRS, Conn. (Oct. 12) – Freshman Bonginkosi Macala (Pretoria, South Africa) netted the deciding goal as the University of Connecticut men’s soccer team downed Boston University, 2-1 at Morrone Stadium on Tuesday night. UConn improves to 6-4-2 on the season (2-1-1 BIG EAST) while the Terriers fall to 4-6-1.
The Huskies took an early lead as Chukwudi Chijindu (Fontana, Calif.) beat Terrier goalkeeper Zach Riffett with a low shot to the left hand side of the net off a feed from Easton Wilson (Hartford, Conn.) 2:54 into the first half.
B.U. managed to knot the score in the 24th minute when Roland Erlichman connected with a pass from Miles Dunn for his fourth goal of the season.
Macala then answered for UConn at 27:24, giving the Huskies the 2-1 advantage, which would be all Connecticut would need as Boston University did not register another shot on net in the remainder of the contest.
UConn next plays host to Rutgers, Saturday, Oct. 16, in a BIG EAST match beginning at 7:00 p.m.
