ATLANTA, GA (August 26, 2002) - Jen Tietjen, a member of the University of Connecticut women’s soccer team from 1995-98, was placed on the Women’s United Soccer Association First Team last week. Tietjen is a defender for the Philadelphia Charge, and is one of five players from the team to earn a spot on either the first or second team.
Tietjen, named to the All-WUSA team for the first time in her career, helped the Charge hold opponents to a league-best 1.05 goals-against average. She was also a finalits for the Defensive Player of the Year, which was awarded to Carolina’s Danielle Slaton. Tietjen played in a team-best 20 games this season, recording another team-high 1800 minutes played. She sat out the second-to-last game of the regular season, breaking her string of consecutive minutes played from the start of the year.
While at UConn, Tietjen compiled 64 assists, the most of any player in Husky history, and was ranked tenth in career points with 96. In addition, she was named Most Valuable Player for the 1997 season and she holds a place in a number of other categories in the Husky record book.
