Keirsten Walters Medical Update

STORRS, CONNECTICUT (NOV. 3, 2000)-- University of
Connecticut junior womens basketball player Keirsten Walters
(Littleton, CO) underwent capsular shift surgery on her right
shoulder Thursday (Nov. 2) to repair instability within the shoulder.
Capsular shift is performed when instability is the result of an
excessively loose capsule. This procedure tightens the entire
shoulder capsule.
Walters will be in a shoulder sling for 4-6 weeks and will undergo 4- 5 months of rehabilitation. The injury, which dates back to Walters high school playing days, was aggravated as a result of lifting weights independently. Surgery was decided on when conservative treatment failed.
Walters, a 5-8 guard, is currently sidelined for a second season at UConn. She sat out the 1999-2000 season due to surgical procedures to her right and left knees.
