A former tennis standout at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 1997-2000, Wise captained and contributed to the Fighting Illini's second place finish in the Big Ten Conference her senior year. Illinois ended the 1999-2000 season ranked No. 34 nationally in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division I team standings.
"We are excited to have Megan on board," UConn Director of Tennis Glenn Marshall said. "She has tremendous playing experience with a nationally-ranked collegiate team and that experience will be helpful right away in her on-court coaching."
While at UI, Wise was a three-time George Huff Award winner, which recognized outstanding student-athletes who held a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 and above. She was also active with the Student Athletic Advisory Board (SAAB) and was named a three-time All-Academic Big Ten selection. Before transferring to Illinois, she played one year of varsity tennis at the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Mississippi. She held south regional rankings in singles and in doubles and was an All-Academic Southeastern Conference (SEC) selection. Prior to her appointment at Connecticut, Wise was the head tennis coach at DeSales High School in Columbus, Ohio. She also served as a tennis professional for the Wickertree Tennis Club in Columbus, Ohio, where she directed and instructed players of all ages in the fundamentals of the game.
Wise is a native of Westerville, Ohio, and is a 2000 graduate of the University of Illinois earning a bachelor's degree in sport management. She plans to enroll in the UConn Graduate School in the fall of 2001, taking coursework towards a master's degree in sport management.
