Huskies Win One Doubles Match at Regionals

PRINCETON, NJ - Members of the University of Connecticut men’s tennis team competed this weekend in the 2001 Omni Hotels Eastern Region Championships, took one victory in the doubes bracket, but were unable to bring home a championship.
Junior Mike Furman (Allentown, PA) competed in the singles bracket of the tournament, and after receiving a bye in the first round, was defeated by Tony Epkey of West Virginia, 6-1, 6-4. Furman and junior Joe Lang (Winchester, MA) teamed up in the doubles bracket and were victorious against Kevin Bielen and Chris Kushner of Rutgers, 9-8 (3), in the Round of 64, but fell in the Round of 32 to Todd Champeau and Steve Prisco of UMass, 8-6.
This was the final tournament for the men’s team this fall. The Huskies will resume play at the end of January as they begin their spring season.
