STORRS, CT (Dec. 11) - The University of Connecticut swimming and diving teams will head to the Bahamas from January 5-18 for their annual winter training trip. While in Nassau, the Huskies will hold a meet against Butler University on January 7.
This year's training trip will be both a reward for one of the strongest and most successful fall semester campaigns in school history and also as an opportunity for the Husky swimmers and divers to hone their techniques in preparation for February's conference and national championship meets, plus the remainder of the dual schedule. The UConn men posted a 5-1 dual meet record this fall and placed a school-record fourth amongst collegiate teams represented at the U.S. Open, held Dec. 4-6 outside of Seattle. The women enjoyed a 4-2 fall and established several top times along the way.
The trip has been a New Year's tradition under head coach Bob Goldberg for the Huskies, although it is the first time UConn will land in Nassau. UConn's previous training trips since 1988 have taken the team to: Puerto Rico (six times), Hawaii (four times), Miami/Fort Lauderdale (three times), Barbados (1994), St. Croix (1998), Curaco (2000) and Key West (2003).
