Volleyball Inks Three Recruits for 2003

The University of Connecticut women's volleyball coach Kelli Myers announced the signing of three high school standouts to National Letters of Intent during the signing period. The signees are Mary Shaw, Alanna Castle and Megan Silver.
Shaw is an outside hitter from Arlington, Texas. She is a three time letter winner in volleyball between Bowie and Lamar High Schools, where she played for head coaches Jenna Gomez and Shaine Sackett, respectively. At Bowie, Shaw was Rookie of the Year in 2000 and was selected Defensive Player of the Year and first team All-District in 2001. In 2002 at Lamar, she was named second team All-District.
Castle is an outside hitter from Las Vegas, Nev. She is a three time letter winner at Valley High School under head coach Rachael Blair. Castle was a member of the All-Teams in both 2001-02 and 2002-03 and was selected team captain for the 2002-03 season.
Silver is a middle from Snohomish, Wash. She is a three year letter winner at Snohomish High School under head coach Shirley Siegal. She was an All-League member in both 2001 and 2002 and was selected both team captain and team MVP for the 2002 season.
