Huskies to Play Host to Boston College

The fourth-ranked Connecticut women’s basketball streak looks to get back to its winning ways on Saturday in a BIG EAST matchup against Boston College at the Hartford Civic Center. Game time is set for 12:00 pm and will be televised locally on CPTV. The game will be the 25th consecutive sellout at the Hartford Civic Center for the women’s basketball team and the 103rd overall including games at Gampel. The Huskies are 186-4 at home since the beginning of the 1993-94 season.
Connecticut holds a record of 11-2 overall and are 2-1 in the BIG EAST. The Huskies have lost two of their last four games and have multiple-losses for the first time since 2000-01.
Boston College enters the game with an overall record 12-2 and are 2-1 in league play. The 20th ranked Eagles’ will be facing their second consecutive ranked opponent, as they lost at home to No. 24 Miami 70-66 on January 10.
Saturday’s game between the Eagles and the Huskies marks the 46th meeting between the two program. Connecticut holds a 33-12 advantage in the series that dates back to the 1980-81 season. The Huskies have won the past nine games and 25 of the last 26 contests. UConn holds a record of 19-3 against BC on home court and have not lost there since a 72-69 loss on January 2, 1988.
Senior All-America guard Diana Taurasi enters the contest with 1,837 points and in sixth place, just 342 points away from being the all-time leading scorer in UConn history. Next stop on the scoring list for Taurasi is Svetlana Abrosimova, who scored 1,865 points.
Taurasi is first in scoring in the BIG EAST at 19.2 points per games and assists with 61. Second on the team in scoring is sophomore Barbara Turner, who averages 13.2 points per game on 55 percent shooting. Turner has scored in double figures 10 times this season and 27 times in her career. Also averaging in double figures this season are sophomore guard Ann Strother (10.7 ppg) and junior center Jessica Moore (10.4 ppg). Moore also leads the Huskies with 6.5 rebounds per game. The Huskies as a team are shooting a solid 49 percent from the field, while limiting their opponents to just 34 percent shooting.
Boston College is led by senior guard Amber Jacobs who is fourth in the league in scoring (17.1 ppg) and second in assists (5.4 apg). Junior guard Jessalyn Deveny is second on the squad in scoring at 16.9 points per game. The Eagles have been a sharp-shooting squad all season long connecting on 50 percent of their field goal attempts and 76 percent of their free throw tries.
The Eagles are led by Cathy Inglese, who is in her 11th season as head coach of Boston College. She has a record 183-124 at Boston College and an overall mark of 303-198.
