Tim O’Brien Named Assistant Volleyball Coach
STORRS, Conn. (Mar. 16) -- Tim O’Brien, a 1999 graduate of Springfield College and former head volleyball coach at Loyola University Chicago, has been named the assistant volleyball coach at the University of Connecticut.
In his one season as head coach at Loyola in 2004, O’Brien led Loyola to a 22-9 record and the Horizon League Championship as the team earned an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Prior to being named head coach of the Ramblers, O’Brien served as assistant women’s volleyball coach for two seasons as the team finished in 2002 as Horizon League Regular Season Champions with a No. 28 final ranking. O’Brien also lead Loyola’s men’s volleyball team to a No. 11 ranking as head coach in 2003 when the team came within one game from the NCAA Final Four.
From August 2000-02, O’Brien was an assistant women’s and men’s volleyball coach at Springfield College. In 2001 and 2002, he helped guide the men’s squad to two NCAA Division III men’s national championships and women’s and men’s New England Athletic Conference regular season championships in 2001.
O’Brien coached the USA Colleges men’s volleyball to a bronze medal at the Arafura Games in Darwin, Australia in 2001 and served as a women’s assistant coach at East Stroudsburg University in 1999.
As a student-athlete, O’Brien was a two-time team captain and helped lead Springfield College to a NCAA Division III men’s volleyball national championship in 1997.
