Carvalho and Cook to Play in Finals of Quinnipiac Invitational

HAMDEN, Conn. (October 15, 2006) - Junior Nate Carvalho (Freetown, Mass.) and freshman Tom Cook (Pittsford, N.Y.) battled their way through their respective flights and have advanced to the finals of the Quinnipiac Invitational.
Carvalho defeated Chris Bane of Fairfield 6-3, 6-3 and then took down John Hughes from Quinnipiac 1-6, 6-2, 10-6 to advance to the finals of flight C. Cook easily won a 6-1, 6-0 match over Fairfield's Ben Geller before winning 6-4, 6-1 over Ben Young of Bucknell to advance to the finals of flight D.
In flight B, freshman Joe Goldstein (Tucson, Ariz.) defeated John Burke of Holy Cross 6-2, 6-2 and then fell in the semifinals to Quinnipiac's Mike Racioppo 6-2, 6-2. In the same flight, junior Christian Malerba (Derby, Conn.) lost to Zach Hascoe from Bucknell 6-1, 6-1.
Sophomore Jeff Klar (Marietta, Ga.) fell to Ben Rosenstock of Bucknell in flight D 6-2, 6-2. In the consolations of flight A, sophomore Ben Schueler (Arlington, Mass.) won an 8-2 match over Sacred Heart's Kevin Guidicipietro while sophomore Joey Michaels (Rochester Hills, Mich.) defeated Andrew Costin of Rhode Island 8-2. In the consolations of flight C, junior Aaron Ribchinsky (Ivoryton, Conn.) cruised past Rhode Island's Mark Marcello 8-0.
In doubles action, the duo of Carvalho/Malerba advance to the semifinals of flight A after getting a 9-8 win over Rhode Island's Henrick Alstrom and Dixon Simmons and then defeated Andrew Chan and Thomas Curran of Quinnipiac 8-6.
In flight B doubles, senior Joel Gamoran (Mercer Island, Wash.) and Michaels defeated Matthew Vicidomino and Brendan McEllenny of Holy Cross 8-3 before taking down Costin/Kyle Duffy 8-4 from Rhode Island to advance to the semifinals.
In flight B, senior Craig Helstowski (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Ribchinksy were 8-6 winners over Zachary Morrison and Balasz Szikla of Fairfield before losing to Esteban Blanco/ Aleksandr Kolomeitz of Fairleigh Dickinson 8-6. In flight A, Schueler/Goldstein fell to Fairfield's Jonathan Fernando/ Michael Palumbo 8-5.
