STORRS, Conn. (March 28, 2006) — Former University of Connecticut corner back Justin Perkins (2001-04) was named the Special Teams Player of the Week for NFL Europe on Tuesday.
Perkins returned a blocked field goal 72 yards for a touchdown, giving his Amsterdam Admirals a 10-point lead en route to a 20-15 victory over the Cologne Centurions on Sunday. He also added two special teams tackles, five defensive tackles and two passes defended in the game which leveled Amsterdam's record at 1-1 on the young season.
Perkins was allocated to NFLEL by the Kansas City Chiefs and is the first Husky to ever claim one of the league’s weekly honors. Joining Perkins in Europe this spring are former Huskies Keron Henry (Berlin Thunder), Tyler King (Frankfurt Galaxy practice squad) and Sean Mulcahy (Berlin Thunder injured reserve). Henry is third on the Thunder with four receptions for 59 yards through two games. All NFL Europe games are broadcast in the U.S. on the NFL Network, most of them live.
