Frank Earns Reynolds Outstanding Student Scholarship

STORRS, Conn. (May 9, 2006) – Kathleen Frank (Lansing, Mich), now a women’s soccer alumna, has been awarded the Helen Reynolds scholarships for her academic successes in the University of Connecticut Kinesiology department. This scholarship is award annually to four students in the kinesiology department. Two scholarships are awarded to students with a concentration in exercise science and another two with concentrations in sport management. This is the third consecutive year that a member of the women’s soccer team has earned this prestigious award beginning with Lani Fortier in 2004 and Kristen Graczyk in 2005.
The criteria for this award require the recipient to be a good citizen as well as a good student. Frank is the embodiment of the Helen Reynolds award. She is a leader on the soccer field as well as in the classroom. As a tri-captain of the women’s soccer team, Frank helped lead the 2005 team to its 24th consecutive NCAA tournament appearance. The Michigan native is also a learning group leader and was the first women’s soccer sophomore selected to the coveted position.
As a student in the No.1 nationally ranked kinesiology department, Frank was one a select few undergraduates chosen to attended regional academic conferences in her academic discipline. Frank made herself available to participate in human performance research projects and earned recognition for her dedication from her peers and professors. She averaged 3.83 in her kinesiology courses and Earned “A” level grades in courses ranging from Physics to Mechanisms and Adaptation to Sport & Exercise to Animal Physiology.
The head of the kinesiology department, Dr. Carl Maresh, has expressed his desire in written recommendations for Frank to complete her Master's degree at another institution and then return to UConn to pursue her Ph.D.
