9/7/2006 12:00:00 AM | Women's Basketball
“We are excited about this year’s home schedule,” said Director of Athletics Jeffrey A. Hathaway. “One of our goals after returning to UConn has been to reinstate the popular senior citizen and youth season ticket discount. We are happy to announce that this affordable season ticket option will be put in place this season and hope that it will provide more Husky fans the opportunity to enjoy the proud tradition of UConn women’s basketball in person.”
The season ticket prices for senior citizens and youth reflect more than a 30-percent discount off the regular adult rate, which was not increased for the third consecutive year.
Prices for the 12-game Gampel Pavilion Season Ticket Package are $264 ($22 per game) for adults and $180 ($15 per game) for seniors (62 and older) and youth (18 and under). Prices for the seven-game Hartford Civic Center Season Ticket Package are $154 ($22 per game) for adults and $105 ($15 per game) for seniors and youth.
In all, the Huskies will play a total of 14 games against teams that qualified for the 2006 NCAA Tournament, including meetings with two programs (North Carolina and LSU) that advanced to the national semifinals a year ago.
The five-time national champions and the defending BIG EAST Tournament champs will open the regular season at home when they play host to Richmond on Monday, Nov. 13 in the start of a four-game homestand to open the regular season that also includes games against Colgate (Nov. 16), Boston University (Nov. 28) and Purdue (Nov. 30).
The Huskies will also spend a week in Italy during the month of November (Nov. 18-25) as they will travel to Rome and Sorrento to play a pair of exhibition games against teams from the Italian League.
The Huskies will play 17 regular-season home games in 2006-07, highlighted by home contests against Purdue and Tennessee. UConn will also take to the road for a trio of key non-conference showdowns at Virginia (Dec. 18), North Carolina (Jan. 15) and LSU (Feb. 11).
Other home non-conference contests include games at home against Colorado State (Dec. 21), Oakland (Mich.) (Dec. 23), Hartford (Dec. 29) and Sacred Heart (Dec. 31). The Huskies will travel to Worcester, Mass., to take on Holy Cross at the DCU Center.
Connecticut will get an early start on the conference schedule as it will open BIG EAST play on Thursday, Dec. 7, when it faces Georgetown on the road. The Huskies will open the home portion of the BIG EAST slate on Tuesday, Jan. 9, when they host Seton Hall.
The Huskies will face Rutgers twice for the second consecutive season in 2006-07 (Feb. 6/home & Feb. 26/away), while UConn will also host BIG EAST contests against Seton Hall, Syracuse, DePaul, Notre Dame, Louisville, Pittsburgh and Villanova. Connecticut will travel to face BIG EAST members Georgetown, West Virginia, Providence, St. John’s, Cincinnati, Marquette and South Florida.
The national television schedule as well as the local Connecticut Public Television (CPTV) broadcast schedule will be announced in the near future.
UConn captured the BIG EAST tournament title in 2005-06 and boasts a 300-83 (.783) all-time mark in BIG EAST Conference games.
The Huskies will return two starters and eight letterwinners from last season’s squad which finished 32-5 and advanced to the Bridgeport Regional Final where they were defeated by Duke 63-61 in overtime.
Connecticut has captured either the BIG EAST regular season or tournament title in each of the past 13 seasons.
