OAKLAND, Calif. (December 21, 2007) - In addition to O'Brian White's (Scarborough, Ontario) Player of the Year Award, two more members of the University of Connecticut men's soccer team earned postseason recognition by Soccer America. Julius James (Maloney Gardens, Trinidad) was named to the First Team MVP squad, while goalkeeper Josh Ford (Liverpool, N.Y.) earned Second Team All-Freshman honors.
White's Player of the Year nod and First Team MVP selection came just days after being named a finalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy and a first-time NSCAA All-America. He finished his junior year with an NCAA-leading 23 goals and 53 points and the school record for single-season goals.
A three-time NSCAA All-America, James leaves UConn as one of the most storied defenders in program history. He was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year each of the last three years and a semifinalist for the Hermann Trophy each of the last two.
In his first year between the pipes, Ford finished the year with a record-tying 20 wins and is ranked second in season shutouts with 14. His 0.533 goals against average was fifth in the NCAA for the season after giving up just 13 tallies in 24 games and more than one on only one occasion.
White and Ford will return for the 2008 season, along with seven other starters, to defend UConn's BIG EAST regular season and tournament championships.
