Women's Volleyball Downs Chicago State 3-0

DeKALB, Ill. (August 30, 2008) - The University of Connecticut women's volleyball team downed Chicago State 3-0 (25-10, 25-11, 25-9) in a 54-minute match to earn its second victory of the season on Saturday afternoon at the Northern Illinois University Invite.
UConn opened up 2008 season play on Friday night with a 3-1 win over Cleveland State before taking on Chicago State in one of the shortest matches in UConn program history.
The Huskies combined for an overall hitting percentage of .597 after hitting over .530 in each set, including a .667 hitting percentage in the third. All 13 of the Huskies saw time in this afternoon's match-up, including freshman Jordan Kirk (Plano, Texas), who made her second match start this season and concluded the afternoon with eight kills.
Senior Megan Frey (Chaska, Minn.) picked up eight kills in 10 attempts, good for a .800 hitting percentage. She added two service aces and three digs while sophomore Rebecca Murray (Carmel, Ind.) chipped in with seven kills in seven tries.
Freshman setter Annie Luhrsen (Wheaton, Ill.) picked up where she left off a night before, as she dished out 35 assists and recorded four kills and four service aces.
Junior libero Jessica Isaac (Erlanger, Ky.) had nine digs for the Huskies in the quick three-set match.
Chicago State hit -.022 on the afternoon, as the Huskies defense picked up six total blocks. Chy Crichton had three kills and two digs for her program as they had eight kills and nine hitting errors in 46 combined attacks.
The Huskies will take on host, Northern Illinois University, at 8:00 p.m. (EST) on Saturday night to conclude their opening tournament of the 2008 season.
