Huskies to Face Top Notch Competition at Penn State National

STORRS, Conn. (January 29, 2009) - The University of Connecticut women's track and field team will travel to University Park, Pa. for the highly anticipated Penn State National on Friday-Saturday, Jan. 30-31, which welcomes some of the most competitive individuals and teams in the country at the Ashenfeller Track.
Competition begins early on Friday morning and will continue all day, while live results can be found at the Nittany Lions' .
"With nationally ranked teams and individuals to match up against, I am anticipating outstanding performances from the representatives (of UConn) that we will be taking," said UConn head coach Bill Morgan. "This is a talented and exciting group of individuals."
The group that Morgan will be taking this weekend consists of 10 individuals, including three student-athletes who are currently nationally ranked in their respective events.
Freshman Victoria Flowers (Providence, R.I.) is currently ranked No. 4 in the weight throw, while junior Tynisha McMillian (Bridgeport, Conn.) is ranked No. 4 in the shot put. Both have earned back-to-back ECAC Field Athlete of the Week honors this season.
Trisha-Ann Hawthorne (Elmsford, N.Y.) ranks No. 13 in the 60-meter dash as she has started her sophomore year at UConn with stellar marks in both the 60-meter and 55-meter dash.
Fellow BIG EAST Champions in Mandela Graves-Fulgham (Shutesbury, Mass.) and hurdler Phylicia George (Markham, Ont.) will be looked upon to provide exciting efforts in their events as well.
In the middle distance group, UConn will depend on sophomore Leah Andrianos (East Syracuse, N.Y.), UConn's 1,000-meter record holder, and freshman Heather Wilson (Homer, N.Y.) to continue their significant progress this season.
All-American high jumper, Carin Knight (New Rochelle, N.Y.) will round out the group at this weekend's competition for the Huskies. With the championship season approaching the Penn State National will be a great test for each individual and will help prepare them for what the rest of the year has in store.
