STORRS, Conn. - For the first time this season, the University of Connecticut women's soccer team has been ranked in three polls. Currently the Huskies are ranked 25th in the NSCAA poll, 23rd in Soccer Times, and 16th in SoccerAmerica's Top-25.
The Huskies began the year ranked No. 21 in the Soccer America poll but fell out after dropping their first two games of the year to BYU and then No. 8 Penn State. Slowly but surely, the Huskies have been clawing their way back into the polls.
After dropping their firs two games of the year, UConn has won its last six-straight matches in the month of September, including an upset over then No. 8 Wake Forest during the UConn Classic at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium. In those six wins, the Huskies have shut out their opponents three times only allowing four goals while recording 14 of their own.
The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and SoccerTimes poll are both voted upon by various collegiate women's soccer head coaches.
The newly-ranked Huskies will take to the field at St. John's on Thursday, September 24, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. before returning home to Morrone for a Sunday day game against the Orange of Syracuse on the 27th.
