STORRS, Conn. - UConn's Josh Ford was named College Soccer News/TopDrawerSoccer.com goalkeeper of the week on Monday after recording back-to-back shutouts for the Huskies last week.
The Huskies went 1-0-1 on the week as they shutout both West Virginia and Notre Dame at Morrone Stadium in Storrs. On Tuesday, Oct. 19, UConn blanked the Mountaineers 2-0 as Ford tied his season-high tally of saves with seven on the night. Against Notre Dame, Ford made six stops as UConn battled the Irish to a scoreless double-overtime tie.
UConn has outscored its opponents 34-4 on the year and has only allowed one goal to its BIG EAST opposition. Since its 1-0 loss to Maryland on Oct. 5, UConn has shutout five straight opponents, including four conference foes.
Ford, who has 50 saves on the year, has earned 52 career wins and needs just one to tie UConn's all-time record of 53, which is held by Matt Chavlovich (1996-99). His 48 career shutouts and 80 consecutive starts are both program-bests.
