Johansson Nets A Pair To Lead Huskies Over Seton Hall, 3-0

STORRS, Conn. - The Connecticut (6-5-2, 2-2-1 BIG EAST) women's soccer team rebounded for a convincing 3-0 victory over Seton Hall (6-6-0, 2-3-0 BIG EAST) in BIG EAST action today in South Orange, N.J. after falling at Rutgers on Friday, 2-0. Graduate student Angelika Johansson (Falkenberg, Sweden) put home the game winner at 17:20 of the first half before netting an insurance tally at 62:57. She now stands tied for the team lead with five goals on the year. Junior Jessica Dulski (Pittsford, N.Y.) combined with sophomore Ally Mancino (Belle Mead, N.J.) to stop four shots in the shutout.
The victory puts UConn back over .500 for the season as the Huskies head home for the final four home games of the season after going 1-2 on a three-game road trip.
Johansson scored, unassisted, in the first half after UConn dominated the action. Connecticut held an 11-5 shot advantage in the opening 45 minutes along with a 4-2 edge in corner kicks. The transfer from Franklin Pierce University has tallied four goals in the past three games. She's recorded five goals on only nine shots this season.
Johansson buried a cross from junior striker Jessica Shufelt (Rochester, N.Y.) at 62:57 to put the Huskies ahead, 2-0. Senior captain Elise Fugowski (Stockholm, N.J.) finished the scoring when she put home a rebound following a Johansson shot. The goal was her first of the season.
Connecticut returns to Storrs with four-straight home games on tap before closing out the season with away games at West Virginia and Pittsburgh. UConn will face Marquette on Friday, October 8 at 5:00 p.m. in Morrone Stadium. Admission is free for all UConn students and the first 100 students receive free Pizza.
