Women's Basketball Opens Postseason With Big East Quarterfinal Sunday

STORRS, Conn. - The No. 1 seed University of Connecticut women's basketball team will open the postseason at the 2010 BIG EAST Tournament on Sunday, March 7, at the XL Center in Hartford with a quarterfinal round game against either Seton Hall, Syracuse or Providence.
The Huskies' opening game in the BIG EAST quarterfinals on Sunday will tip at approximately 2:00 p.m. (ET) and will be televised nationally on ESPNU.
No. 9 seed Syracuse (20-9) will meet No. 16 seed Seton Hall (9-20) in a first round game on Friday, March 5 at 2:00 p.m.
The winner will advance to the second round against No. 8 seed Providence (16-13) on Saturday, March 6 in a 2:00 p.m. tip.
The winner of that second round contest will move on to meet Connecticut (30-0) in the quarterfinal round Sunday.
Connecticut earned the No. 1 seed (and a bye to the quarterfinal round) for the 2010 BIG EAST Championship by claiming the 18th BIG EAST regular season title in the program's history by virtue of a perfect 16-0 conference mark.
This represents the 17th time overall and the fourth consecutive season that UConn has entered the conference championship as the No. 1 seed.
The Huskies perfect-run through conference play marked the eighth season in which they have finished with an unblemished BIG EAST record.
UConn enters BIG EAST Tournament play boasting an all-time mark of 56-12 in the event and has captured four of the last five tournament titles - and the last two straight (2009, 2008, 2006, 2005).
The Huskies are 15-2 all-time in BIG EAST Tournament action at the XL Center and have won 14 of their last 15 overall.
Connecticut will enter the 2010 BIG EAST Tournament looking to secure both the conference regular season and tournament titles for the third consecutive year and the 14th time in the program's history.
