LOS ANGELES - Current University of Connecticut women's basketball standout Maya Moore (Lawrenceville, Ga.) and former Husky star Diana Taurasi both won ESPYs on Wednesday night at the annual ESPN awards show.
Moore won the ESPY for Best Female College Athlete while Taurasi was named Best WNBA Player.
Moore, who will be a senior in the fall, led UConn to its second-straight national championship and perfect 39-0 season in 2009-10. She won the Wade Trophy for the second year in a row as top player in the nation, who succeeds both athletically and serves as a positive role model both on and off the court. She was also named the Honda Award winner for women's basketball.
Taurasi is a three-time WNBA All-Star and last season led the league in scoring with the Phoenix Mercury at 20.4 points per game. She led UConn to three consecutive national championships from 2002-2004.
In total, the UConn women's program was nominated for eight ESPYs, including Best Team, which was won by the Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints.
