Women's Soccer To Host 2012 BIG EAST Championship

Storrs, Conn. - It was announced today by the BIG EAST Conference in Providence, R.I. that the University of Connecticut will host the 2012 BIG EAST Women's Soccer Championship. The games will be played at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium in Storrs, Conn. on November 2 and 4, 2012.
"We are excited to host the BIG EAST Championships in 2012. With an outstanding stadium and soccer atmosphere here at Morrone Stadium, it is a great environment for the championship. This is the seventh time that we have hosted the event and we are happy to host again in 2012," said Head Coach Len Tsantiris.
In an official release from the BIG EAST Conference, the league announced the homes for the Olympic Sport Championship dates through 2012-13. The 2011 BIG EAST Women's Soccer Championship will be played at Dick Dlesk Stadium in Morgantown, W. Va. and hosted by the University of West Virginia.
Both of UConn's BIG EAST Championships have come in Storrs. UConn defeated Notre Dame, 2-1, in Storrs for the 2004 BIG EAST Title. The Huskies defeated West Virginia, 1-0, in 2002 to claim their first BIG EAST Title. The BIG EAST Championship has been held at Morrone Stadium in 2009, 2006, 2004, 2002, 1998 and 1994.
