FLORENCE - The University of Connecticut women's basketball team arrived in beautiful Florence on Sunday afternoon and embarked on a splendid tour of the city that gave birth to the Renaissance.
The team checked into the Grand Hotel Baglioni at around 1 p.m. local and opened the tour with a trip to the Academia Gallery, which housed several masterpieces including Michelangelo's David. Unfortunately, photos are not allowed to be taken inside the Academia Gallery but any photo taken would not have done those masterpieces, especially David, justice.
The team spent about an hour in the Academia Gallery and walked by the Battistero and the Duomo Cathedral before viewing the Casa di Dante and the Bargello.
The team ended the tour Galleria degli Uffizi, which includes statues of Florence natives Michelangelo and Leonardo DaVinci, before walking back to the Baglioni to get ready for another outstanding Italian dinner.
The team will be back in action to play its third game of the tour tomorrow at 6 p.m.
