Maya Moore Named WNBA Rookie of the Year

STORRS, Conn. - Former University of Connecticut women's basketball star Maya Moore has been honored as the 2011 WNBA Rookie of the Year as announced by the WNBA on Friday. Moore is the second-consecutive Husky to earn the honor (Tina Charles) and the third all-time (Diana Taurasi in 2004).
The Lawrenceville, Ga. Native led the Lynx to the best record in the league at 27-7. Minnesota earned the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference and will begin playoff action on Friday against San Antonio.
Moore topped all rookies in points (13.2 ppg), minutes (28.0 mpg) and steals (1.4 spg). She was second overall amongst rookies in rebounds (4.6 rpg) and third in assists (2.7 apg).
A four-time First Team All-America selection, Moore is a three-time winner of the Wade Trophy and was honored as the National Player of the Year by the Associated Press and the United States Basketball Writers Association twice. Moore was also honored as the Naismith and Wooden Award National Player of the Year twice.
The most prolific winner in NCAA history, Moore led UConn to a 150-4 record over her four-year career, which included four Final Four appearances and two National Championships. She finished her career as the fourth-leading scorer in NCAA history with 3,036 points and was honored as the Capital One University Division Academic All-American of the Year and BIG EAST Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2010 and 2011.
Moore received 38 of the 40 votes. Danielle Adams of the San Antonio Silver Stars received the other two.
