Tom Verdi Named to BIG EAST Honor Roll

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Sophomore shortstop Tom Verdi (Warwick, R.I.) earned a spot on this week's BIG EAST Honor Roll for the week ending March 4 for his efforts at the Mississippi State Tournament.
Verdi paced the UConn offense in a 2-2 weekend with a .471 batting average. After hitting a grand slam last weekend he followed it up with a three-run homerun against Mississippi State in a 5-4 loss on Friday afternoon. Verdi totaled eight htis and six RBI on the weekend to lift his season total to a team-best 14 runs driven in.
The league named South Florida 3B Daniel Rockhold its Player of the Week after posting a .556 average to go with two HRs and 7 RBI. Rockhold's teammate, Derrick Stultz was honored as the Pitcher of the Week. Stultz pitched six scoreless innings to earn a win for USF over Savannah State, while striking out six and allowing just three hits.
