Kenney Named as New Volleyball Assistant

STORRS, Conn. (April 17, 2012) - University of Connecticut volleyball coach Holly Strauss-O'Brien has announced the hiring of Kristin Kenney as assistant coach.

Kenney joins the Connecticut coaching staff after serving as an assistant coach at Harvard for five seasons from 2007 through 2011. In her first two seasons, Kenney was the team's secondary assistant before being promoted to primary assistant in the summer of 2009.

A 2007 graduate of Boston College, Kenney was a four-year starting defensive specialist for the Eagles. Kenney was also the team's second setter and averaged 4.05 assist per set during her senior season. She received the Athletic Director's Award for Academic Achievement all four seasons and was the recipient of the 2006 Boston College Coaches Award.

"We are really excited and proud to welcome Kristin into the UConn volleyball family," stated Strauss-O'Brien. She joins us, having great experience in recruiting and coaching. Kristin's energy and hard work will be contagious in our gym and on the recruiting trails. More importantly, she shares in our programs mission of developing champions in the classroom, on the volleyball court and in life."

Outside of Harvard volleyball, Kenney has worked at numerous camps throughout New England and the West Coast. She also represented the Ivy League on the American Volleyball Coaches Association Assistant Coaches Committee. Kenney was also a part of Harvard's Athletic Department Recruiting Committee and Coach Development Committee.

"I am honored to join the UConn volleyball family and am looking forward to working with its high-caliber student-athletes," said Kenney. Kenney graduated from BC with a bachelor's of arts degree in history and human development. At Harvard, she continued her education and will complete a master's of education in human development and psychology, following the spring 2012 semester.
