PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Sophomore left-hander Anthony Marzi (Berlin, Conn.) was selected for this week's BIG EAST Honor Roll following a standout performance against Cincinnati on Saturday.
Marzi threw a complete game one-hitter, but lost to the Bearcats, 1-0, in the nightcap of a doubleheader at Dodd Stadium in Norwich. It was Marzi's second complete game of the season. He struck out a career-high 10 batters, including striking out the side on two occasions. In the first inning, Marzi struck out all three batters on the minimum nine pitches.
He became the fourth Husky this season to land on the weekly Honor Roll and the first pitcher. In a pitcher heavy week, Marzi is one of four pitchers on the list. His record stands at 2-6 on the season with a 2.96 earned run average, lowest among UConn starters. Marzi is also tied for the team lead in strikeouts with 50 and has tossed a team-high 76 innings.
