Three Huskies Earn Summer League All-Star Selection

STORRS, Conn. - University of Connecticut baseball players Anthony Marzi (Berlin, Conn.), Stanley Paul (Stamford, Conn.) and Eric Yavarone (North Haven, Conn.) have each been selected to participate in their respective league's all-star game over the next week.

Marzi, a left-handed pitcher, will represent the Madison (Wis.) Mallards on the South Division All-Star team from the Northwoods League. He is 2-0 with a 3.16 earned run average in eight games and five starts. Over 31.1 innings, Marzi has struck out 27 batters. The NWL All-Star Game is scheduled for July 24 at Madison's Warner Park.

In the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League, left-handed hitting outfielder Paul carries his .371 batting average into the All-Star break as a member of the Kaiser/Wolff Division squad. He has homered four times, driven in 15 runs, scored 17 and stolen 10 bases for the North Jersey Eagles. The ACBL All-Star game is slated for July 19 in Brooklyn, N.Y. at MCU Park.

Locally, Yavarone, a left fielder for the Mystic Schooners, has been chosen for the New England Collegiate Baseball League's East Division All-Stars. He is batting .271 with 13 runs scored and a team-leading six doubles. Yavarone and the NECBL All-Stars take the field on July 22 at the Montpelier Recreation Field in Montpelier, Vt.
