Four Huskies Named NEWISA All-New England

STORRS, Conn. - Four UConn women's soccer players earned All-New England recognition according to the New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association announcement on Jan. 9. Senior Devin Prendergast (Babylon, N.Y.), freshman keeper Emily Armstrong (Collegeville, Penn.), and Rachel Hill (Rollinsford, N.H.) were tabbed as First Team selections while sophomore Stephanie Ribeiro (Pawtucket, R.I.) netted Third Team Honors. The same quartet also garnered recognition from the American Athletic Conference in postseason awards announced in November.
Prendergast collects her second NEWISA All-New England honors after landing on the Second Team in 2011. She capped an excellent campaign that saw her named Second Team All-Conference by the American. The senior saw major action in all 20 games this season, playing a key role on the Huskies' defensive half. She concludes her career having played 5,027 minutes on the pitch in Husky uniform. Prendergast accumulated six goals and an assist in her four years, including two game-winners during her sophomore season.
Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Emily Armstrong receives the first All-New England nod of her career after starting every game of her first season as a Husky. The Pennsylvania native finds herself on the First Team after posting a .694 save percentage and 1.49 goals against average through 20 games. Armstrong made 68 saves for an 8-9 record, logging six shutouts along the way.
Hill led the UConn offense as a freshman with 13 goals and 5 assists. The rookie finished her first season as a Husky tied for third in the conference in goals and fourth in points with 31. A First Team All-Conference and All-Rookie choice by the American Athletic Conference, Hill was selected to the United States Women's U-20 National Team to participate in the CONCACAF U-20 Women's Championship this month in the Cayman Islands. Hill saw action in the squad's first game against Costa Rica, nearly registering her first international goal when she released a hard shot that clanged off the post. The New Hampshire native got the start in the squad's second game against Jamaica, helping the USA qualify for the semifinals on January 17.
Stephanie Ribeiro earned a Third Team nod after a breakout sophomore campaign in which she scored six goals and four assists for the Huskies. Ribeiro ranked second only to Hill with three game-winning tallies. Over the course of the season Ribeiro collected American Athletic Conference Player of the Week Honors as well as the first All-Conference First Team award of her career. The sophomore also received a coveted invite to train with the U-20 Women's National Team alongside Hill in November.
