Men's Soccer Begins NCAA Tournament Play on Thursday

STORRS, Conn. -- The UConn men's soccer team makes its 35th NCAA Tournament appearance on Thursday, Nov. 19 when it plays host to Boston University in a First Round match at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m. and will be broadcasted by WHUS.org, 91.7 FM.
UConn (9-5-6) earned an at-large bid to the tournament on Monday during the online selection show. The program has now qualified for the event in 17 of the last 18 years under current head coach Ray Reid.

In 16 NCAA Tournament trips under Reid, the Huskies are 22-10-7, including an 18-5-3 mark at Morrone Stadium. The program has advanced to the quarterfinals three times since 2011.
The Huskies advanced to the American Athletic Conference championship game on Nov. 15, playing Tulsa to a 1-1 double overtime draw before bowing out in penalty kicks.
16 of UConn's 23 goals have come after the first half of play (15 in the second half, one in overtime). Additionally, after scoring just seven goals in its first 11 games, Connecticut has responded with 16 goals over its final nine matches.
Thursday's tilt will be the 47th meeting between the two programs and first since 2013. The Huskies lead the all-time series, 31-12-3, but sport a 1-2 all-time mark against the Terriers in NCAA Tournament play.
Through the most recent NCAA stats release on Nov. 16, UConn checks in at No. 1 in The American and No. 17 nationally with a 0.74 goals against average and also is 71st with a 0.35 shutout percentage. Individually, junior co-captain Kwame Awuah is fourth with nine total assists, while freshman forward Abdou Mbacke Thiam stands at 40th with 0.55 goals/gm and 20th with 11 individual scores.
Boston University earned an at-large bid to the tournament after compiling a 12-5-2 overall record and a 6-1-2 mark in Patriot League competition.
