The Game
The UConn women's lacrosse team (4-3) continues its non-conference slate with a road game against No. 3 Boston College (7-0) on Saturday (1 p.m.) at the Newton Lacrosse Field in Chestnut Hill, Mass. The Huskies, winners of three straight, sport an all-time record of 8-8 against the Eagles in a series that dates to 1997.
Saturday will be the first of three straight road games and the second contest against a ranked opponent for Connecticut this season. UConn nearly upset No. 3 Syracuse (L, 12-11) at the Carrier Dome last month on Feb. 25.
Last Time Out
The Huskies improved to 3-0 at home this season with an 18-7 win over former Big East foe Rutgers last weekend (March 7). Junior attacker Katherine Finkelston (Leonardtown, Md.) tallied a game-high four goals on seven shots, while freshmen Kelsey Catalano (Stony Brook, N.Y.) and Grace Nolan (Marcellus, N.Y.) combined for five scores in the victory.
The Scarlet Knights kept pace with the Huskies in the early going, and UConn went into halftime with a 7-6 lead. The Connecticut defense was the difference out of the break, holding the Knights to just one goal in the final 30 minutes. UConn junior goalkeeper Shannon Nee (Lancaster, Pa.) finished with a team-high three caused turnovers and four ground balls against a Rutgers team that converted just five of its 11 clear attempts. The win snapped UConn's five-game home losing streak against the Knights.
Scouting The Eagles
Boston College comes into this weekend with wins over three ranked teams on the year. The Eagles picked up victories over No. 16 Notre Dame (March 7) and No. 12 Louisville (March 11) last week in their first two home matches of the season.
Boston College's 7.0 scoring margin in 2015 ranks 14th among Division I schools, and the Eagles are ninth nationally with 146 points. UConn's 151 points this year are good the seventh-highest mark. Eagles senior attacker Covie Stanwick leads all Boston College players with 35 points on 26 goals and nine assists. Her goal and point totals both rank in the top five in Division I, and she finished with a game-high six goals in Boston College's win over the Cardinals two days ago.
Last season, the Huskies fell to the Eagles, 15-3, at home in Storrs. UConn committed 23 turnovers in the loss, while Boston College converted 15 of its 18 clear attempts. Connecticut downed the Eagles, 13-8, in 2013 to pick up its first victory over Boston College since 2007.
Next Up
After Saturday, the Huskies will be back in action on Wednesday against in-state rival Fairfield. The match between UConn and the Mustangs gets underway at 3 p.m. at Rafferty Stadium.
