PROVIDENCE - For the second-consecutive week, UConn men's track and field senior captain Oluwatosin Edwards has been selected as the American Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league on Tuesday afternoon.
"Oluwatosin's development in his time here has been nothing short of extraordinary," said associate head coach Rich Miller. "From an athlete who may have never seen the event until his freshman year to become a defending Conference Champ who is ranked in the top-20 in the country is a great story. A two-time captain who is also a great student, 'Tosin embodies the ideal of the well-rounded student-athlete. "
Edwards earns back-to-back weekly honors after winning the weight throw (20.66m) on Saturday, Feb. 13 at the Valentine Invitational in Boston, Mass. A week ago, the senior established a new program-record in the 35lb weight throw, launching a 20.93m result.
Edwards' 20.93 weight throw mark currently stands as the best in The American and No. 22 nationally on the 2016 Indoor Qualifying Performance List.
The Huskies will head to Penn State on Saturday, Feb. 20 for their final tune-up before the league indoor championship, which is scheduled for Feb. 28-29 in Alabama.
