STORRS, Conn. - The USA Basketball National Team is set to open Olympic play on Sunday, August 7 at 11 a.m. EDT in Rio de Janeiro. Team USA has a distinct UConn flavor to it as the team is coached by Geno Auriemma and the roster is made up of five former Husky greats, including Sue Bird, Tina Charles, Maya Moore, Breanna Stewart and Diana Taurasi.
The Red, White and Blue have taken home the Olympic gold medal in each games since 1996.
Bird and Taurasi will be competing in their fourth Olympic games while Charles and Moore will be competing in their second. Stewart, who helped Team USA win gold at the 2014 World Championship, will be competing in her first Olympic games.
