A Message to Out-of-Market Husky Fans Who Subscribe to Comcast
1/16/2018 12:00:00 AM | Women's Basketball
We have heard concerns from several fans in Florida regarding Comcast Cable's recent decision to no longer offer out-of-market regional sports networks including SportsNet New York (SNY) as part of its channel lineup and hope this message can offer clarity on the matter.
Please know that if you subscribe to Comcast and are within SNY's primary market (Connecticut, New York, New Jersey and Northeast Pennsylvania) you will see no interruption of SNY as part of your cable package.
However, Comcast subscribers that live outside of the four aforementioned states may no longer have the option of purchasing a "Sports Pack" that includes SNY.
We want you to know that Comcast made the decision to discontinue carrying SNY independent of UConn.
We encourage UConn fans who are upset with Comcast's decision to voice any displeasure to Comcast. TV service providers must get feedback from their customers, and it's likely that Comcast would only restore SNY if enough unhappy customers contacted Comcast and made their thoughts known.
If you're looking for a solution, here are two options to consider. If you have access to ESPN3, which is ESPN's online channel, all SNY games are shown on ESPN3 outside of SNY's primary market.
ESPN3 is available through www.watchespn.com or the WatchESPN app to customers who have access to the online network through their TV or internet provider.
The other choice you can make is to switch your provider. Many UConn fans have opted to get their TV service through DirectTV (satellite service). DirectTV continues to carry SNY and is available nationwide.
We are sorry that Comcast made this decision which negatively affects our loyal UConn fans. We hope you can identify a solution so you are able to follow the Huskies this winter.
