Balanced Offense Leads UConn Past SCSU

HARTFORD, Conn. — Senior Katie Lou Samuelson scored 26 points to lead second-ranked UConn women's basketball past Southern Connecticut State, 99-45, in the Huskies' final exhibition game Thursday evening in the XL Center.
Five Huskies finished in double-digit points vs. the Owls: Samuelson, freshman Christyn Williams (18), freshman Olivia Nelson-Ododa (16), senior Napheesa Collier (13) and junior Crystal Dangerfield (10).
Nelson-Ododa led UConn with 11 rebounds while Collier was close to a triple-double with nine boards and nine assists.
Every player on the roster saw action against SCSU with all but two Huskies scoring in the game.
UConn notched a 47-26 advantage in rebounds and a 25-11 lead in assists. The Huskies shot 52.4 percent from the field, including 37.5 percent from beyond the arc.
Vanderbilt is next up for UConn on Saturday in the Mohegan Sun Arena at 6:00 p.m. as part of the Basketball Hall of Fame Women's Showcase. The game will be aired on SNY.
