"Tonight was a great team win, said head coach Chris Maiello. "Our coaching staff continue to be encouraged by our racing." Tonight was lot of hard work and our team had to fight through some discomfort but our team cam through in the end.
" Right from the start I could tell it would a good night, our women's really was strong and with the win and then the men's really broke the pool record right after- that record is from the early 90's - so it's been up there for a while. Will lead off the relay with a pool record of his own in the 100 back, that swim jump-started our relay and our night for the men's program."
As much fun as tonight was, we have another challenge tomorrow. We need to quickly refocus as BU come tomorrow and they will challenge us."
The UConn 400 Medley Relay team posted a pool record with a time of 3:20.40. The combination of Kearsey, Hunter, David May and Kyle Dunlap captured the record and first place finish.
May and Dunlop both grabbed individual wins in the 100 Fly and Free, respectively. Dunlap posted a personal-best time of 46.11 en route to the victory.
Joey Homan earned a win in the 200 Back with a time of 1:52.09 while Emils Jurcik placed first in the 200 Free (1:41.62).
On the boards, the Huskies swept both the 1M and 3M events. Kyle Kennedy took first place in both events while Torrington Wagner grabbed a runner-up finish in the 3M and freshman Justin Corres took second in the 1M.
"Given the fact that the week following Thanksgiving is historically a challenging hill, we had some favorable finishes," said head diving coach John Bransfield. "Between hitting studies, and getting on the saddle of vigorous training, it's hard to feel good and with any rhythm. I was pleased in general that we had more hits than misses and I'm confident that this week's gains speaks volumes for what can be once in full stride. In particular, Libby Drab, Monica Marcello, and Kyle Kennedy had solid performances."
The Huskies are back in action on Saturday against Williams College and Boston University beginning at 1 p.m. at the Wolff-Zackin Natatorium.
