Nurse Named Lieberman Award Finalist

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Senior Kia Nurse of the top-ranked UConn women's basketball team has been named a finalist for the 2018 Nancy Lieberman Point Guard of the Year Award, as announced by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Monday.
Now in its nineteenth year, the award recognizes the top point guard in women's NCAA Division I college basketball. Candidates exhibit the floor leadership, play-making ability and ball-handling skills of 1996 Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame inductee Nancy Lieberman.
Nurse is averaging a career-high 14.7 points this season and ranks sixth nationally with a 46.7 three-point field goal percentage. She also has career-highs in field goal percentage (54.3), minutes per game (32.3), rebounds per game (3.2) and blocks (12).
Four Huskies have won the Lieberman Award previously: Moriah Jefferson (2015, '16); Renee Montgomery (2009); Diana Taurasi (2003, '04); and Sue Bird (2000, '01, '02).
The winner of the 2018 Nancy Lieberman Point Guard of the Year Award will be determined by a combination of fan votes and input from the Basketball Hall of Fame's selection committee. The other finalists for the 2018 Nancy Lieberman Award are Lexie Brown (Duke), Katelynn Flaherty (Michigan), Kelsey Mitchell (Ohio St.), and Sabrina Ionescu (Oregon).
