STATESBORO, Ga. - The UConn men's tennis team opened their trip down to Georgia on Friday morning falling to Georgia Southern, 7-0 at the Wallis Tennis Courts.
"Unfortunately, we got off to a slow start at 1 & 3 doubles, and we had our chances at two doubles but credit to the other team they stepped up," stated associate head coach Reinaldo Valor. " John Michael Holtmann continued his impressive play winning the first set and lost a tough second set while experiencing muscle cramps. Jack McLister had chances in his first set but couldn't pull it out. We need a more consistent team effort and the guys get a chance to respond tomorrow against a very good Mercer team."
For the second-straight match, sophomore John Michael Holtmann (Coral Gables, Fla.) came up short in a tough three-set battle. Holtman beat Antonio Muniz in the first set of the No. 2 singles match 6-2. He couldn't hold on however as Muniz took the second 6-4 and then closed it out 6-1 in the third.
The Huskies will continue their road trip on Saturday morning when they head to Mercer and finish it off on Sunday morning at Kennesaw State.
