Huskies Edge Hofstra, 4-3

MANCHESTER, Conn. – The UConn men's tennis team made it a perfect 2-0 weekend on Sunday thanks to a hard fought 4-3 win over Hofstra at the Magic Lincer Tennis Club in Manchester, Conn. The Huskies improved to 5-4 overall in dual matches with the win.
"It was a great team win against a really good Hofstra team," stated associate head coach Reinaldo Valor. "The guys showed the unity, intensity, and belief it takes to be a really good team!"
"The guys swept all three doubles and Provenzano and Warren clinched the point," commented Valor. "Hill and Zheng were the first team to set the tone with their best performance of the season." UConn's senior Hank Hill (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) and sophomore Yili Zheng (Shanghai, China) opened the day with a 6-1 win at No. 1 over Coco Haener and Shawn Jackson, their team-best 15th win.
The No. 3 team of senior Justin Warren (Durham, N.C.) and freshman Christian Provenzano (Montclair, N.J.) clinched the point with a 6-4 win over Marcus Smith and Julien Wolfe. The Huskies made it a clean sweep at No. 2, with senior Jack McLister (Leesburg, Va.) and sophomore John Michael Holtmann (Coral Gables, Fla.) winning 6-4 over Ryan Hardin and Giacomo Pezzoli, their 10th victory together this year.
"Warren and Holtmann scored the first two points with two dominating wins in singles," said Valor. "Christian clinched the match with his singles victory. He showed a ton of maturity closing the match out in a three set battle."
Holtmann continued his strong spring notching his 15th win by beating Jackson at No. 2, 6-2 and 7-5. Warren won his 11th singles match of the season at No. 5, beating Ryan Hardin 6-1 and 6-3.
The match was decided at No. 6 where Provenzano won a three-set battle with Wolfe. After falling in a close first set, 7-5, he stormed back to take the match and give the Huskies the win, 6-2 and 6-4. It was Provenzano's 10th win this year.
The Huskies will host three matches next weekend at the East Hartford Tennis Club, taking on AAC foe ECU on Friday, Fairfield on Saturday and Bucknell on Sunday.
