Men's Swim/Dive in Third After Day 1

INDIANAPOLIS – The UConn men's swimming and diving team sits in third place (94 points) after the first day of The American Championships meet at the IUPUI Natatorium.
In the 3M dive, the Huskies had two divers reach the Finals after the morning preliminaries. Kyle Kennedy secured a fourth place finish and 15 points for UConn with a mark of 292.50 while Torrington Wagner locked down sixth place with a score of 273.65.
Tonight was a great night for our team, said head coach Chris Maiello. "Setting two relay records in the medleys was the highlight. As for individual events Monica finishing second on the 1M springboard got our women's program off to a great start. Kyle's 3M springboard event was also key for us in the team standings as he finished fourth in Tori also made the top eight. We're sitting in a good position after night one of the team standings and we're looking forward to getting the whole team involved for the first full day of competition tomorrow.
In the two relays, the 800 Free and 200 Medley, the Huskies finished in fourth place. Will Kearsey, Mark Hunter, Cooper Knapp and Kyle Dunlap raced to a time of 1:28.35 in the 200 Medley. Emils Jurcik, Josh Wroblewski, North Hansen and Karl Bishop notched a 6:31.20 in the 800 Free.
The second day of the Championships will resume with preliminaries starting at 11 a.m. and finals resuming at 5 p.m. You can watch The American Championships on The American Digital Network.
